BYD Hits 6 Million NEVs Milestone

BYD Hits 6 Million NEVs Milestone
BYD, the prominent Chinese automaker, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the production of 6 million New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China. Worth noting is that since the previous year, BYD has ceased the production of cars with internal combustion engines (ICE).
Rapid Growth: 1 Million NEV Units in 3 Months
Following the celebration of the 5 millionth milestone, BYD has accomplished an additional 1 million NEV units within a mere three months. The 6 millionth unit, a Bao 5 SUV, is part of BYD’s newly launched sub-brand known as Fang Cheng Bao (FCB), positioned as the fifth in the BYD brand matrix alongside the Dynasty series, Ocean series, Denza, and Yangwang.
Introducing FCB Sub-Brand: Meeting Personalized Needs
BYD introduces the FCB sub-brand, intending to address the increasingly personalized needs of consumers with a range of unique and professional-grade NEV models. The name "Fang Cheng Bao" translates to "Formula" and "Leopard" in Chinese, symbolizing transformative rise and digital exploration, combining the standards of Formula with the agility of the Leopard.
According to Wang Chuanfu, BYD's Chairman and President, FCB serves as the prelude to a broader revolution in the automobile industry. The brand envisions decoding the future of personalized car life through its diverse range of new energy vehicle products.
Production Milestones: A Journey Through Time
BYD's manufacturing journey unfolds with 9 plants across China, serving both the domestic market and 58 export destinations globally. Remarkably, it took BYD 13 years to produce the first million NEVs since the launch of BYD F3 DM in 2008, achieving subsequent milestones in increasingly shorter periods.
The 2 million NEVs threshold was reached in just 12 months, the 3 million milestone in 6 months, and another 2 million NEV units in only 9 months. The company's current production rate, averaging 11,110+ cars per day, demonstrates remarkable efficiency compared to the cumulative output of local auto assemblers in Pakistan.
Global Expansion and Competition with Tesla
BYD is poised for further growth, expanding its production beyond China with plants in Thailand and Brazil. Although attempts to establish a manufacturing facility in India were rejected, BYD is closing in on Tesla to become the largest EV maker globally. While BYD leads in NEV numbers, Tesla remains ahead in pure-electric vehicle sales.
