BYD Unveils Qin L and Seal 06 Hybrid Sedans
BYD has introduced the Qin L and Seal 06 hybrid sedans, featuring the company’s latest fifth-generation Dual Mode (DM) technology, at a grand event in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, China. This launch represents a significant step forward in BYD’s commitment to new energy vehicles (NEVs), aiming to reduce fuel consumption and enhance vehicle efficiency.
Features and Design of Qin L DM-i
The Qin L DM-i, part of BYD’s Dynasty series, is priced between 99,800 and 139,800 yuan (approximately Rs. 3.8 million to Rs. 5.38 million). The car boasts BYD’s “national wave dragon face aesthetics,” with a distinctive front design featuring a chrome bar and a large grille. The exterior is characterized by traditional door handles and a strong waistline running from the front fenders to the rear doors. The rear light cluster, inspired by traditional Chinese knots, extends across the back.
Interior and Dimensions of Qin L
Inside, the Qin L draws inspiration from Chinese landscape paintings and incorporates elements of Chinese knots, creating a culturally enriched design. The cabin features a more streamlined layout compared to the Seal 06, including physical buttons around the gear selector, a rotating 15.6-inch central infotainment screen, and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument screen. Standard features include six airbags, ETC, mobile phone NFC key, automatic air conditioning, and a six-speaker audio system. Higher-spec models offer amenities like a panoramic sunroof, advanced driving assistance, and heated and ventilated seats. The Qin L measures 4830 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790 mm, making it larger than the Qin Plus and wider than the Seal 06.
Advanced Hybrid Technology
Both the Qin L and Seal 06 debut BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM technology. This plug-in hybrid system enhances the interaction between the engine and the electric motor, achieving a fuel economy of 34 kilometers per liter in NEDC mode and 10.7 kWh per 100 km in CLTC mode. The hybrid system features a 1.5-liter engine producing 100 hp and 126 Nm of torque. Lower-spec versions offer an all-electric range of 80 km with a 10.08 kWh battery and a 160 hp electric motor. Higher-spec models come with a 15.874 kWh battery, providing a 120 km range, and a more powerful 214 hp motor. The combined range can reach up to 2,100 km.
Launch Event Highlights
At the launch event, BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu handed over the keys to the first owners of the Qin L and Seal 06 DM-i cars, marking the official start of BYD’s fifth-generation DM era. This event highlighted BYD’s innovation and its leadership in the NEV sector, reinforcing its commitment to advancing automotive technology and sustainability.
