Electric Bus Imports for Islamabad Metro Approved by SBP

Significant strides have been taken in the import of electric buses for Islamabad's public transportation system. According to well-informed sources, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has initiated the process by opening a letter of credit (LC) for the procurement of electric buses.

Following the SBP's action, the necessary funds have been disbursed for the purchase of these electric buses. It is expected that the consignment of electric buses will commence arriving in Pakistan within the next two months.

In late November of this year, a team from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will embark on a visit to China to inspect these buses. Subsequent to the CDA team's inspection, the initial batch of 30 electric buses will be dispatched to Pakistan.

The subsequent batches will include 70 and 60 electric buses, respectively. These electric buses are slated for operation on 13 public routes throughout Islamabad.

It's worth noting that while Islamabad requires 128 electric buses, an order for 160 buses has been placed. An additional 32 buses are being procured to account for potential charging and technical delays or any technical issues that may arise.

CDA officials have reported that the preparations for these buses are in their final stages, and once the CDA inspection is completed, the buses will be shipped to Pakistan.

Upon the arrival of the first batch of electric buses from the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), drivers will undergo two weeks of training. Subsequently, these electric buses are expected to hit the roads of Islamabad in December of this year. In the initial phase, these buses will serve two routes, connecting IJP and Taramri with the Central Metro Bus System.

According to CDA officials, the electric feeder buses will be deployed on 13 routes within Islamabad, aiming to provide world-class travel facilities to approximately 100,000 passengers.
