KP's Quick Link: Abbottabad to Hazara Motorway

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is undertaking a strategic initiative to enhance connectivity in the region by constructing a direct route from Abbottabad city to the Hazara Motorway. Ameer Nadeem Durrani, the Minister for Rural Development and Local Government, along with Ahmad Jan, the Caretaker Minister for Communications and Works, proposed commencing the project at Sherwan Interchange and establishing a tunnel to connect Abbottabad.

During a meeting, it was disclosed that the provincial government has formally communicated its request to the federal government for the expansion of the Sherwan Interchange. Additionally, a request for the construction of an interchange via a tunnel has been forwarded to Islamabad.

The primary goal of this infrastructure project is to interlink various areas, including Abbottabad City, Mansehra, Nathiagali, and the surrounding regions, with the aim of mitigating traffic congestion within Abbottabad City.

In a session held in Abbottabad, officials extensively discussed these plans, emphasizing the immediate commencement of the Abbottabad BRT project, the clearance of rainfall drains, and the resolution of road issues near the termination point of the Hazara Motorway at Peshawar Morr.

The meeting underscored the significance of adhering to project timelines, resolving outstanding issues from previous contracts, and investigating any incomplete work. A particular focus was placed on expeditiously cleaning the drains, prompting a comprehensive strategy for the renovation and cleaning of all drains in Abbottabad. Authorities instructed officials to measure each drain and promptly collaborate with Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) for redesigning.

Furthermore, provincial ministers directed officials to communicate with the Public Service Commission regarding evening and night shift vacancies in District Headquarters Hospitals (DHQs). They were also instructed to seek permission from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to fill these positions. The meeting concluded with directives for officials to address matters related to specific Basic Health Units (BHUs), namely Boghar Mang BHU, Kot Najibullah BHU, Dhodial Mental and General Hospital, and Abbottabad Teaching Hospital.
