Prominent Politician's Unpaid Customs Car Seized

In a recent turn of events, Customs intelligence officials in Karachi took possession of a high-profile politician's upscale vehicle due to the non-payment of customs duties. The impounded vehicle, identified as a 2017 model bullet-proof Land Cruiser, was reportedly being driven by the politician's son in the Clifton area of Karachi on Sunday night.

Customs authorities affirmed that the non-custom paid car was the property of a notable political figure from Balochistan. Originally brought into Pakistan by a foreigner for hunting purposes, the luxury vehicle had initially received a temporary exemption from customs duties and taxes. However, it was later revealed that the influential individual was utilizing the car without obtaining proper Customs clearance.

Following the confiscation, officials transported the luxury Car to the Customs House. This incident highlights the misuse of privileges granted for specific purposes, bringing attention to the need for strict adherence to customs regulations.

Recent CTD operation link

This development closely follows a recent operation carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and a federal intelligence agency on Hub River Road. The operation successfully led to the apprehension of a three-member gang engaged in smuggling non-custom paid vehicles.

Details on Arrested Individuals

The detained individuals, namely Mir Abdus Sadiq Maingal, Hikmatullah, and Abdul Hammed, all hailing from Kalat, Balochistan, were allegedly part of a more extensive network involved in smuggling non-custom paid vehicles across various provinces in Pakistan. The CTD spokesperson revealed that the group, responsible for transporting numerous vehicles from Balochistan to Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a nominal fee of Rs 150,000, was armed with a Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol, and a 30-bore pistol. This underscores the gravity of the issue and the need for concerted efforts to combat such illicit activities.
