Punjab Bans Euro-2 Fuel Sale in Lahore to Stop Air Pollution

Lahore is the most populous city of Pakistan and this historical city has the economic, cultural and strategic significance. The dangers of the environmental deterioration make it the most polluted metropolis in the world. During the winter season, the air pollution and the fog are spread in this city and the surrounding cities, towns and villages, which can make them polluted because of smog, which makes the environment inhabitable.

The government of the Punjab has taken the notice of this issue and they put ban on the sale of the Euro-2 fuel in this provincial capital in order to stop spreading the air pollution. The Finance Minister of Punjab also said that Euro-5 products will be sold in the market in Lahore from December onward till further notice.

The government has formed the anti-smog committee at head office of Provincial Disaster Management Authority PDMA and the finance minister issued orders to t he Commissioner of Lahore Division to enforce the ban on Euro-2 fuel and ensure that only Euro-5 fuel will be sold in the market. He also issued instructions to all owners of the fuel stations to upgrade their setup and they operate the factories without scrubbers to shut the operations down o r they will face strict legal action for not complying with the instructions.

The minister also appealed to the owners of the multiple vehicles to restrict the use of their vehicles and he instructed the relevant authorities to provide the proper public transport facilities including students and daily travelers.

The Minister also said that the industrial units are prohibited from the burning material to produce lot of smoke and he ordered the concerned authorities to take action on put the crops on fire, waste material o r pollution-producing elements along with capture the vehicles, which produces the product excessive fumes, which can cause to create the smog and pollute the whole environment. He also formed the long-term strategy to stop air pollution from the region forever.
