Toyota Hits 300 Million Cars in 88 Years

Back in August of 1935, Toyota initiated its journey into the automotive world with the commencement of the G1 pickup truck's production. This marked the birth of the Toyota Motor Corporation in 1937, originating from the automotive production division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, established in 1926. Interestingly, Toyota Industries, the original manufacturer of looms, is still actively engaged in producing automatic looms as of 2023.

Celebrating the Achievement of 300 Million Cars (2023)

Fast forward to the present day, and Toyota is celebrating a significant milestone in its history. The company proudly announces the production of its 300 millionth car, an accomplishment realized at the end of September, although only officially disclosed at this time.

The Milestone in Numbers

Over nearly nine decades, Toyota has manufactured over 180 million cars within its domestic facilities and an additional 120 million outside Japan. The iconic Corolla takes the lead as the most produced model, with an astonishing 53.39 million units manufactured. Since its debut in 1966, the Corolla has gone through various transformations, encompassing sedans, hatchbacks, wagons, coupes, and even occasional minivans.

Toyota's Global Prominence

Toyota's global influence in the automotive industry is demonstrated by its status as the world's top-selling automaker for three consecutive years, having shipped 10.5 million vehicles in 2022. The RAV4 is recognized as the most preferred car, according to JATO Dynamics.

Expanding the Product Line

The company's product range continues to grow, with the Crown expanding into a lineup of four models and the recent introduction of a Century SUV.

Looking ahead, Toyota's dedication to innovation is evident in the unveiling of electric pickup trucks, SUVs, and sports car concepts at the Japan Mobility Show. If these concepts advance to production in the upcoming years, Toyota's already impressive product lineup could see the addition of even more exhilarating options. As the company reflects on its past accomplishments, it remains steadfastly focused on shaping the future of the automotive industry.
