Toyota Reveals the Second-Generation C-HR

Toyota has officially introduced the second-generation C-HR as a replacement for its predecessor which debuted in 2016. The new compact crossover, previously showcased as the C-HR Prologue, continues the tradition of its forerunner with an eye-catching exterior design.

Remaining faithful to the Prologue, the production C-HR boasts a refreshed front end that draws inspiration from the bZ4X and the latest Prius models. Embracing a bold aesthetic, the vehicle showcases a distinctive hammerhead face. Toyota claims that this design conveys a sense of readiness to surge forward, featuring interlocking shapes and a piercing appearance. Additionally, the front fascia incorporates a prominent lower intake that houses the fog lamps.

One of the notable design elements of the C-HR is its C-shaped LED daytime running lights. These lights stand out with dashed light bars positioned above the main headlamp components, creating a captivating visual effect. Toyota aptly describes this shape as a "super-coupe" design. In addition, the C-HR proudly claims the title of being the first Toyota model to feature flush door handles.

For added visual allure, the C-HR offers vibrant two-paint schemes, allowing customers to choose from a range of striking color combinations. The crossover is also available with wheel sizes that go up to 20 inches, further enhancing its presence on the road. Moreover, diamond-cut character lines adorn the sides of the vehicle, adding an extra touch of elegance and appeal.

The rear of the Toyota C-HR showcases a visually appealing design with several distinctive features. The roof spoiler seamlessly connects to the full-width taillights through sharply-raked windows, creating a cohesive and sleek appearance. Positioned just above the Toyota badge on the sculpted tailgate, you'll find the illuminated model name, adding a touch of elegance to the rear profile.

Additionally, towards the lower section, there is a substantial black trim piece with rough edges, providing a contrasting and rugged element to the overall design.

The latest C-HR boasts dimensions of 4,360 mm in length and 1,830 mm in width, making it 35 mm wider than its predecessor. The height of the vehicle varies between 1,558 mm and 1,564 mm, depending on the specific version. It retains the same 2,640 mm wheelbase as the previous generation.

Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the C-HR benefits from advanced engineering and design principles that enhance its overall performance and driving experience.

The interior of the C-HR showcases a driver-focused cockpit design, emphasizing a sense of control and engagement. A pronounced line runs along the front edge of the dashboard, seamlessly flowing into the door cards, creating a cohesive and visually appealing look. Notably, the living room features an asymmetrical armrest and turbine-style air vents, adding interesting design touches to the overall ambiance.

At the center of the dashboard, you'll find a touchscreen display available in either eight or 12.3 inches, depending on the chosen configuration. Complementing this is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, providing clear and customizable information to the driver. The touchscreen is seamlessly integrated with the Toyota Smart Connect infotainment system, offering a range of features such as an onboard voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and vehicle telematics accessible through the MyT smartphone app.

To enhance convenience, there is a dedicated digital panel specifically designed for controlling the autonomous climate system, ensuring that adjustments can be made without the need to fumble with the touchscreen.

The C-HR offers a range of advanced technological features for an enhanced driving experience. These include a head-up display that provides key information directly in the driver's line of sight, a 64-color ambient lighting system to set the mood, and a panoramic roof that allows for an airy and open feel within the cabin. Additionally, a premium JBL audio system delivers high-quality sound for an immersive audio experience.

In terms of safety, the C-HR is equipped with various driver assistance technologies as part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite. These features include the Automatic High-Beam System (AEB) for improved visibility, Lane Change Assist with Front Cross Traffic Alert to assist in maneuvering, Proactive Driving Assist for proactive safety measures, Steering Assist for enhanced stability, Acceleration Suppression for collision prevention, and a Driver Monitor Camera to monitor driver attentiveness.

In Europe, the C-HR will exclusively offer electrified powertrains, with a focus on hybrid options. One of the hybrid systems available features a 1.8L four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, generating 97 hp and 142 Nm of torque. This is further complemented by an electric motor with a rating of 94 hp (70 kW) and 185 Nm, resulting in a combined system output of 138 hp (103 kW).

Additionally, there is another hybrid configuration available for the C-HR, featuring a 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. This engine delivers a power output of 150 hp and a torque of 190 Nm. Complementing the combustion engine, an electric motor contributes 111 hp (83 kW) and 206 Nm of torque, resulting in a combined system output of 206 Nm.

For the 2.0L hybrid variant, Toyota offers the E-Four system, which provides all-wheel drive capabilities. This system includes a rear electric motor that generates 40 hp (30 kW) and 84 Nm of torque, effectively increasing the overall system output to 196 hp (146 kW). Both hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) come equipped with lithium-ion batteries featuring a 4.08 Ah energy capacity.

The C-HR offers an additional powertrain option in the form of a 2.0L plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, providing a robust power output of 220 hp (164 kW). With a fully charged battery, the C-HR PHEV can travel up to 66 kilometers solely on electric power, offering an efficient and environmentally friendly driving experience.

It's important to note that the performance data provided are provisional and subject to homologation. Toyota will release precise specifications for the C-HR PHEV at a later time, ensuring accurate and verified information regarding its capabilities.
