Volkswagen Introduces New Low-Priced Electric Car
Volkswagen (VW) has revealed the ID.2all concept, a budget-friendly electric vehicle (EV) aimed at competing with the likes of the Tesla Model 3, Toyota bZ3, and MG 4. Here are the details on its specs and features.
Design and Dimensions
The VW ID.2all concept boasts a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, a length of 4,050 mm, a width of 1,812 mm, and a height of 1,530 mm. It comes with 20-inch wheels that are fitted with 225/40R20 tires. The ID.2's C-pillar styling is reminiscent of the Golf Mk1.

Power and Performance
The ID.2 EV will run on VW's MEB platform and will feature a front-mounted motor that sets it apart from the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5. The motor is expected to generate 226 PS and provide a WLTP range of about 450 km. However, the battery size has not yet been disclosed.
VW claims that the ID.2 will have a fast-charging time of 20 minutes from 10% to 80% at a fast-charging station. The EV will have a top speed limited to 160 km/h due to gearing but can achieve 0-100km/h acceleration in under 7 seconds.
Price and Competition
VW is aiming to position the ID.2 as a cost-effective option that offers Golf's practicality and comfort at the price of the Polo. For reference, the Golf competes with the Toyota Corolla, while the Polo rivals the Suzuki Swift. VW intends to launch the production version of the Volkswagen ID.2 at a price point below the equivalent of Rs. 75,000,000, making it as affordable as a Polo.
Furthermore, VW is targeting the Tesla Model 3's position as the mid-range EV market leader. The company may intend to replace the e-Golf with the ID.2, given the EV's C-pillar styling that is similar to that of the Golf Mk1.
