When the winter season is approaching, you need to prepare yourself to face the cold air and wear the warm clothes and adopt all healthy and hygienic measures to stay healthy and smart. Wash and Wax – To make the look of the car dashing and attractive, you need to do wash and wax, which can enhance the look of the car. Road salt is considered as hard on paint jobs and you can do all these things before the start of the cold weather. You may use the synthetic wax seal off the paint of the car in order to prevent the corrosion. 

The Windshield – You can check the small chips or dings on the windshield of your car. You need to get them repaired before the starting of the cold weather. The double-checking of the windshield wipers can help to clear the ice or wax, which is built-up and it is clogged up wiper fluid nozzle and you should ensure extra wiper fluid in your trunk. 

Lights – You should walk around your vehicle and check that all lights are working properly and the covers of the headlights are clear. You can find different DIY options to help you clean cloudy headlights and you do not need to spend money to replace them if you spare some time. 

Emergency Supplies – if you travel on the road and you stuck on the road during severe weather conditions, the things can turn down quickly. The winter season can be alarming for the vehicles and you should have emergency bag in your vehicle and you can use it in the time of distress. You need some things, which should be in your pack: Granola bars or other shelf-stable snacks

Floor mats – The floor mats are essential thing, which you might have in your car as they can save inside of your car from a lot of wear and tear during the winter months. Your shoes and clothes can track in lot of mud, salt, sand, and snow, and removable floor mats are lot easier to clean than standard flooring that available in most of the vehicles.

The Engine
Battery – At the beginning of the winter season, you need to clean off the corrosion, which is found on the battery of the vehicle. You need to use the baking soda with water to make it soft and sweep it away with the use of stiff brush. You can also use the jumper cables in your car all the times.   

Fuel – You should keep extra fuel in the back of your car and if you do not do so, then you should ensure that the fuel tank of your car must be quarter to tank all the times. Whenever you will go anywhere in emergency, you will feel safe and satisfactory to go there as you may have enough fuel in your car. 

Antifreeze – You must ensure that antifreeze ratio of 50% water to 50% antifreeze will be excellent during the winter season. You will find DIY test kits, which is available at the auto repair stores or you can stop by the shop and they must get your car checked by the mechanic.   

The Underside

Tires – During the winter season, the condition of tire must be good as the level of air in tire is crucial during the journey on the icy roads. The studies show that per 10 degree drop in temperature cause one PSI decreased in the tire pressure. If the weather is uncertain during the day, you may face any trouble. You need to have cigarette-powered tire pressure pump in the trunk during winter season, it will help you to face this issue. You need to think over installation of snow tires on your vehicle. 

Brakes – When the winter season is started, you need to double check the brakes so that everything will be in working conditions. You need to replace the pads and rotors as you want so that you can stop safely in slickest conditions.

Mechanic’s Tune-Up

You need to contact with your mechanic for the seasonal tune-up on the arrival of the winter season. The mechanic will check antifreeze ratios, thermostat, heater, and defroster, and he recommends any other services you may have in your vehicle so that you stay safe on the road. You will also focus on oil change and rotate your tires so you will be ready to drive the car on the road.

Mental Prep

You should be mentally ready to drive your vehicle during wet, icy or snowy conditions. You need to remember that you should be show down and should have safe distance between your car and the car ahead of you. If you feel that you are not safe to drive the car during winter season, wait for the improvement in weather conditions. You are a good driver but it is not enough for driving during winter and you should be aware of all challenges of the winter season, which you need to face.
