A technical query about Radiator/Coolant

A technical query about Radiator/Coolant

As you know all the cars now have automatic radiator fan, it switches on or off depending upon the engine coolant temperature (ECT). The temperature sensor is submerged in the coolant hose.
My question is what will happen if there is no coolant in the radiator? The temperature sensor checks the temperature of the coolant and if there is no coolant in the hose then that sensor will say that temperature is not high enough to switch on the radiator fan.
In this case what will be the reading of Engine Temperature needle in the dashboard? Does it take input from the same sensor?

If you are talking about a civic, then the switch which turns on the fan is different from the ECT sensor. The ECT controls the gauge. The radiator fan switch is located in the thermostat housing. It monitors temperature independently from the gauge sensor. In case of loss of a lot of coolant, you are right, the fan switch will not turn on the radiator fan, since the temperature will not be high enoug
