Advise me about VITZ ECU reset

I was facing bad caverage, loss of power and decreased pick in my vitz 2005 from quite some time.

In the first instance i got the engine oil changed as well as oil filter and replaced air filter

with genuine Denso one but felt no improvement.

Yesterday I made the throttle body washed with cleaning fluid and changed the plugs with original

Denso iridium tipped. I also got its Cat Converter removed and O2 sencer cleaned. After that I

noticed the following changes :

a) The pick has somewhat improved.

b) There is an increase in engine sound .Increase in RPM is also quite noticeable.

c) The acceleration pedal feel a bit soft.

d) Improvement in average has not yet been calculated.

To solve the problem of elevated RPM my mechanic has advised me to reset its ECU by unplugging

battery's -ve terminal for 1 or 2 minute before plugging it againn.

I request your advice regarding :

1. Is this the correct way to reset ECU.

2. Will the reset have any negative effects on engine performance?

3. How else can i further increase the pick and average?
