Catalytic Convertor Vitz 2006 can be repaired?

Recently, I have purchased the Toyota Vitz 2006 model. Now I have issues with my car, firstly its fuel average is very poor and a secondly it jerks when I drive it to go for a ride. I went to mechanic and checked the by him. He said that the car has issue with its Catalytic Converter and told me its replacement will be around 40k. I am from Islamabad and I want help and suggestions to fix this issue. Can I fix the old one rather to replace it with a new one? Thanks in advance if anyone helps me to get the issue fixed.
