Connecting with ECU with OBD2 ELM327 device

Hi members.
I own a Toyota Vitz 2006 model. It is a Japanese model. The issue I am facing is when try to connect the ECU with OBD2 elm327 device, it indicates and error that reads it is unable to connect to ECU. Please tell me in how to connect using customize PID and how to enter PID for vitz in application and what to enter? I will be very thankful to you.
