A faulty fuel cap can lead to fuel smell, warning lights, o r a check engine error. Here’s how you can identify if the cap needs replacement:

✅ Signs of a Cracked o r Faulty Fuel Cap:

Check Engine Light: A faulty cap can trigger the EVAP system warning, leading to a check engine light.
Fuel Smell Around the Car: If fuel vapors escape due to a cracked seal, you may notice a strong fuel smell near the rear left wheel area.
Loose Fit: If the cap doesn’t tighten properly o r keeps spinning without clicking, it may be damaged.
Visible Cracks o r Worn-Out Rubber Seal: Check for cracks o r hardness on the rubber gasket around the cap.
🔹 How to Fix It?

Try Cleaning the Cap & Seal – Sometimes, dust and dirt prevent proper sealing.
Check the O-Ring Gasket – If it’s dry o r cracked, replace the fuel cap.
Use an OEM BMW Fuel Cap – Avoid cheap third-party caps, as they may not provide a perfect seal.
