Is Burning Smell o r Smoke While Starting a Sign of a Failing Starter in Suzuki Bolan?

I once noticed a burning smell o r slight smoke from under the dashboard o r bonnet when I tried to start my Suzuki Bolan. The van eventually started, but the smell was strong. Can a short-circuited o r jammed starter motor cause this, and is it dangerous?

Yes, a burning smell o r visible smoke while starting is a serious warning sign. It could be caused by:

Short circuits inside the starter motor

Burnt o r damaged wiring leading to the starter

Starter getting stuck in the engaged position, causing overheating

Poor grounding o r loose connections that create electrical arcing

This is dangerous and can damage other electrical components o r even start a fire in worst-case scenarios. If you experience this, stop using the vehicle immediately and have the electrical and starting system inspected by a qualified electrician o r mechanic.
