Toyota Passo Gear Issue

I own a Toyota Passo 2007. I have a problem in my car. My car struck in the D gear when I start it. The reverse gear works properly but car cannot move forward in D gear. The car moves after 10 minutes after jerking when it gets heated then the D gear works fine. My mechanic suggested me to change the whole gear. Pleas anyone can tell me the actual issue.
