Two problems in Vitz

Dear brothers,

I am facing two problems in my Vitz 2000.

1. The digital meter is showing "O/D OFF" sign. What's that?

2. Sometimes meter shows "Check Engine" sign and sometimes it does'nt.

I've changed the engine oil and also checked all other fluids. Everything is fine.

Vitz owners please help me out. Thanx in advance.

1. O/D OFF indicates 'Over drive' is off. Which means that your car would not be going into fourth gear, only upto the 3rd. This provision is there for city or mountainous driving when you purposely do not want to shift to the 4th gear. How to turn O/D on, notice there should be small button below the larger shift button on the right hand side of your car's gear changer. It should be un-pressed. So if you press it (you should hear a click sound when it is pressed), then O/D should turn on.

2. There can be different reasons for this. Sometimes it is the catalytic converter, which can be clogged or mal-functioning because of dirty petrol. My suggestion is to get your engine checked by a reputable workshop. For first time you can get it checked by Toyota.
