Vitz ECU - Is it that sensitive and costly?

Today, my mechanic told me to think twice before I go for a Vitz.

Many Vitz owners had problems with their ECU units in the past, when water had gone inside the box during rains or while servicing their cars.

As a result they had to order it from Dubai which costed about Rs.15,000/- to 20,000/- for the original while the local ones being made out here are not reliable and the cars would stall / stop on the roads causing mental anguish to the owners.

1. Could anyone explain what is the ECU and is it being installled in all cars nowadays.

2. What is the price of the ECU if it had to be replaced?

3. Won't insurance companies cover this cost?

In simple terms, ECU is the computer that controls a car's engine, fuel etc. management systems.
It can get damaged by rainwater if not placed correctly in teh right place.
I don't know about the cost of Vitz's ECU, but it is a little expensive.
And insurance companies 'might' cover them under the electronic stuff coverage, maybe.
