The fuel cap warning on your BMW 2 Series dashboard is usually triggered when the cap is loose, cracked, o r missing. The fuel system in modern BMWs is sealed to prevent fuel vapors from escaping, and any leak can cause the warning to appear.

✅ Common Causes:

Loose Fuel Cap: If the cap is not tightened properly after refueling, it can trigger a warning.
Cracked o r Worn-Out Cap: Over time, the rubber seal on the fuel cap can dry out and crack, causing leaks.
Faulty Fuel Cap Sensor: If the cap is in good condition but the warning persists, the fuel cap sensor might be faulty.
Issue with the EVAP System: The Evaporative Emission Control System EVAP detects fuel leaks. A faulty fuel cap can cause the system to throw an error.
🔹 Solution:

Check if the fuel cap is properly tightened turn until you hear a click.
Inspect the rubber seal for cracks o r damage.
Replace the fuel cap if it’s cracked o r worn out.
If the warning persists, scan the car using an OBD-II scanner to check for EVAP system faults.
