Why is my BMW 2 Series giving low fuel average in city driving?

I own a BMW 2 Series in Pakistan, and I’ve noticed that my fuel economy is much lower than expected, especially in city traffic. I’m getting way below the claimed mileage. What could be the reasons for this, and how can I improve the fuel efficiency?

City driving in Pakistan, especially in congested areas like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, can significantly impact fuel economy. Several factors could be causing your BMW 2 Series to have poor mileage in city traffic:

Frequent Stop-and-Go Traffic: The BMW 2 Series is designed for smooth acceleration. Constant braking and acceleration in traffic can reduce fuel efficiency.
Short Trips: If you drive short distances often, the engine doesn’t reach optimal operating temperature, leading to higher fuel consumption.
Heavy Foot Driving: Aggressive acceleration burns more fuel. Smooth and gradual acceleration improves efficiency.
Underinflated Tires: Low tire pressure increases rolling resistance, forcing the engine to work harder.
Fuel Quality: Poor-quality fuel with lower octane levels may cause inefficient combustion.
Solution:

Drive smoothly and maintain a steady speed when possible.
Check and maintain proper tire pressure.
Avoid unnecessary idling.
Use high-quality fuel preferably 95+ RON.
Ensure the engine air filter and spark plugs are clean and functional.
