Why is My BMW 2 Series Steering Wheel Stiff and Hard to Turn?
I’ve noticed that my BMW 2 Series steering wheel has become stiff and harder to turn, especially at low speeds. The power steering fluid level seems fine, but the issue persists. Could this be due to a failing power steering pump, an issue with the electronic steering system, o r a worn-out steering rack? What steps should I take to diagnose and fix this problem?

Possible Causes:
Electronic Power Steering EPS Malfunction: The BMW 2 Series comes with an electronic power steering system. A failing EPS module o r motor can cause stiff steering.
Low o r Contaminated Power Steering Fluid For Older Models with Hydraulic Steering: If the car uses hydraulic steering, low fluid levels o r contaminated fluid can cause stiffness.
Steering Rack Failure: A worn-out steering rack can cause resistance when turning the wheel.
Faulty Power Steering Pump If Equipped: A failing pump won’t generate enough pressure, making the steering harder.
Damaged o r Worn Steering Components: Issues with tie rods, ball joints, o r the steering column can lead to difficulty in turning.
Solution:
Check if the EPS warning light is on and scan for error codes using a BMW diagnostic tool.
Inspect the power steering fluid level and condition if applicable. Replace it if dirty o r low.
Have the steering rack checked for leaks, stiffness, o r damage.
If the issue persists, visit a BMW specialist to diagnose the EPS module o r motor.
