Why is my Suzuki Mehran losing power and consuming more fuel? Could it be the catalytic converter?

I’ve noticed that my Suzuki Mehran 2015 model is becoming sluggish, especially when accelerating, and its also consuming more fuel than usual. I’ve heard a blocked catalytic converter can cause this. How can I confirm if that’s the issue and what’s the best way to fix it in Pakistan?

Yes, a clogged o r partially blocked catalytic converter can definitely cause a loss of power and increased fuel consumption in your Mehran. When the converter gets clogged due to poor fuel quality o r carbon buildup, it restricts the flow of exhaust gases, which in turn affects engine performance.
In Pakistan, many people use lower-quality petrol o r drive in stop-go traffic, both of which accelerate buildup. Symptoms include sluggish acceleration, rough idling, and black smoke. To confirm:

Have a mechanic check the backpressure in the exhaust system.

A temperature test using a thermal gun can also help the outlet side should be hotter than the inlet if it’s working properly. Cleaning might help if it’s not fully damaged, but in many cases, replacement is required.
