On June 29th, 2024, the Excise and Taxation Department of Sindh held an auction for 40 premium number plates, generating a significant revenue of 67.54 crore PKR for the Sindh government. The event took place at a local hotel and attracted considerable interest from bidders. The auction was a major financial success and highlighted the high demand for exclusive number plates among the affluent in the region.
The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Senior Minister of Excise, Taxation, and Information Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon. During his address, Minister Memon expressed his gratitude to all participants, emphasizing the noble purpose behind the auction. He clarified that the event was not merely an elitist display but aimed to serve a greater good, reinforcing the social responsibility aspect of the initiative.
The highlight of the auction was the sale of the number plate “A1,” which fetched a staggering 10 crore rupees. The winning bid was placed by businessman Muzamal Kareem, who was awarded the ownership certificate by Senior Minister Memon. This number plate attracted the highest bid of the auction, reflecting its premium status and desirability among collectors and status-conscious individuals.
Another significant sale was that of the number plate “A786,” which was auctioned for 2.65 crore PKR. The ownership certificate for this plate was presented to the winning bidder by Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Shah. These high-value transactions underscored the event's success and the willingness of participants to invest substantial amounts for exclusive number plates.
Overall, 38 other premium numbers were auctioned off, with the bids ranging from 10 crore to 21 lacs PKR. The detailed table of these auctioned numbers showcases the wide range of bids and the competitive nature of the event. The funds raised through this auction will be directed towards building houses for flood victims, as stated by Minister Memon.
