Double Challan Blitz Targets Altered Number Plates
The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) has adopted a stringent approach to address the issue of individuals employing black paper on their vehicle number plates. A spokesperson for the PSCA disclosed that the authority has decided to levy a double fine on such offenders. The first fine is imposed for violating traffic regulations, while the second one is for tampering with the vehicle's number plate.
Taking swift action, the authority has already initiated measures against vehicles sporting black paper on their number plates. Over 130 vehicles, including rickshaws, motorcycles, and cars, have been impounded as part of this crackdown.
Additionally, the PSCA official highlighted that, under Motor Vehicle Ordinance 97A, concealing or using a fake number plate constitutes a criminal offense. Offenders may face imprisonment for up to two years or fines reaching Rs2 lakh.
In a broader context, authorities in Punjab have launched a substantial crackdown against traffic rule violators, with a particular focus on underage drivers and individuals without a valid driving license. This concerted effort has resulted in the apprehension of numerous underage drivers, while those operating without driving licenses are facing hefty fines. The stringent enforcement measures have prompted a surge in citizens across Punjab visiting driving license centers daily to secure their licenses, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
