Hyundai and Kia Hit the 100,000 EV Sales Milestone in the US

Hyundai Motor Group proudly announces the successful sale of over 100,000 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in the United States. This significant achievement is attributed to the innovative E-GMP platform, introduced locally in 2021.

Diverse E-GMP Lineup Takes the Lead

The journey began with the launch of Hyundai's first E-GMP model in the U.S., the Ioniq 5 EV, setting the stage for subsequent successes. The Ioniq 6, the Kia EV6, and the Genesis GV60 swiftly followed suit. Between December 2021 and October this year, a total of 101,976 BEVs utilizing the E-GMP platform found homes in the U.S.

Top Performers in Sales

Among these remarkable figures, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 emerges as the bestseller, boasting an impressive 51,240 units sold. The Kia EV6 follows closely behind with 36,838 units. Further down the lineup, the Ioniq 6 achieved 9,557 sales, while the Genesis GV60 garnered the attention of 4,161 buyers in the U.S.

Overall EV Success in the U.S. Market

The Korea Times reports that Hyundai Motor Group's total EV sales in the U.S. reached 77,772 units through October this year. This reflects a remarkable 53.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, these figures encompass sales of non-E-GMP-based models, such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, Genesis GV70 Electrified, and Genesis G80 Electrified. Hyundai alone achieved 51,564 sales in the first 10 months of the year, while Kia contributed an additional 26,208 units.

Future Prospects and Growth
Looking ahead, the South Korean automotive giant anticipates a surge in local EV sales during the second half of the decade. In a strategic move, Hyundai broke ground on a dedicated electric vehicle factory in Georgia in October last year. This state-of-the-art facility, scheduled to commence operations in 2025, will have an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles, manufacturing electric cars for the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands.

This monumental achievement and strategic investments underscore Hyundai Motor Group's commitment to shaping the future of electric mobility in the United States.
