Is Suzuki Carry Set to Replace Ravi in Pakistan?

Over the past few years, there have been consistent reports circulating about Pak Suzuki's intentions to retire the Bolan, a model with a four-decade legacy, in favor of the Every van. However, each time the plan is proposed, it fails to materialize.

Once again, the buzz is growing stronger regarding the imminent arrival of the Suzuki Every, slated for introduction in the third quarter of this year. While the Bolan has always been a center of attention, its pickup counterpart, the Suzuki Ravi, receives relatively little notice.

Pak Suzuki had showcased the new Every at the 2022 PAPS show in Lahore, providing a glimpse of what might replace the Bolan. However, the pickup version is yet to be unveiled. Let's explore the potential successor for the Suzuki Ravi in Pakistan—the Carry pickup.

The proposed replacement for the Ravi is expected to mirror the JDM-spec Carry, the 13th-generation model introduced in 2013, and has undergone multiple facelifts during its decade-long presence in the market. It's important to note that the corresponding JDM Suzuki Every is the 5th generation model, based on the 13th-gen Carry, and debuted a couple of years later in 2015. It's unlikely that the larger one, often referred to as the 12th-gen Carry (Indonesian-spec) with a 1.5L engine, will be introduced in Pakistan.

The JDM Carry features the same 660cc engine under its front seats as the JDM Every van, available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 3/4-speed automatic, and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. In Pakistan, expectations are for the pickup to house a naturally aspirated 660cc engine (48hp/62Nm) with a manual gearbox, likely tuned to suit local conditions.

If reports hold true, the replacements for Bolan and Ravi could finally make their debut in the third quarter of this year. With the introduction of the new Every van and Carry pickup, Pak Suzuki may experience a sales surge comparable to the 660cc Alto, currently the best-selling vehicle in Pakistan. Nevertheless, it is crucial for the company to address the lack of creature comfort amenities in the locally assembled Ravi pickup.
