Now You Need a Car Fitness Certificate for Motorway Drive

With the goal of fostering safe roads and promoting environmental sustainability, the provincial government has embarked on significant initiatives. The current interim government in Punjab has implemented a ban on the entry of vehicles lacking car fitness certificates and permits on highways and motorways.

This decision, officially endorsed in the presence of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, signifies a crucial partnership between the government and the National Highways and Motorway Police.

The specifics of this initiative involve recently signed agreements that mandate the Punjab Transport Department and the Motorway Police to actively share information regarding vehicle fitness and route permits. To ensure effective implementation, focal persons will be appointed by both departments to oversee the seamless exchange of information and enforce compliance with the rules.

These proactive measures align with the provincial government's broader strategy to address environmental challenges, particularly the issue of smog in Punjab. Caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi, during the ceremony, praised the environmentally friendly initiative and highlighted its role in creating a healthier and cleaner environment for the residents of Punjab.

In a parallel effort to regulate unregistered Chingchi rickshaws, CM Naqvi announced a one-month window for owners to register their vehicles for free. After this period, unregistered rickshaws will not be permitted on the roads. This move not only contributes to road safety but also aligns with the government's commitment to organized and regulated transport systems.

Furthermore, to enhance emergency response capabilities, the caretaker CM unveiled plans for a trauma center along the Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway, supported by the National Highway Authority. This development underscores the government's dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of commuters on these vital transportation arteries.
