Punjab Issues 74,000 Driver's Licenses in One Day

In Punjab, the recent crackdown on unlicensed drivers has yielded a remarkable surge in compliance, as thousands of individuals flocked to licensing centers to adhere to regulations. Within a mere 24 hours, the provincial traffic police reported an issuance of an impressive 74,000 driving licenses, signaling a significant impact of the ongoing enforcement efforts.

The provincial capital played a leading role, with a staggering 24,000 licenses issued, showcasing a substantial increase in adherence to licensing requirements. CTO Feroze played a crucial role in overseeing the efficient processing of fines and licenses at a monitoring center established at the traffic headquarters. His efforts ensured a streamlined and effective implementation of the crackdown.

As the crackdown continues, these developments underscore the importance of strict enforcement measures to promote road safety. A day earlier, the National Highway and Motorways Police increased fines to enhance highway safety.

In tandem with the licensing surge, fines have witnessed a massive increase. The fine for using High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lights on roads surged to Rs. 2000, reflecting a significant increase from the previous Rs. 300. Motorcyclists engaging in dangerous activities, such as stunts, now face a hefty fine of Rs. 5,000, a substantial jump from the previous Rs. 300 penalty.

Similarly, the fine for driving without a helmet has increased to Rs. 1,000, up from Rs. 200, highlighting the importance of protective gear for two-wheeler riders. Passenger vehicles exceeding the prescribed limit will incur a higher penalty of Rs. 5,000, compared to the previous Rs. 1500 fine.

Fines for over-speeding have also witnessed an uptick, with motorcycles facing a Rs. 1,500 penalty, cars at Rs. 2,500, passenger vehicles at Rs. 10,000, and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) at Rs. 5,000. These increased fines send a strong message to all road users about the consequences of violating speed limits, emphasizing the commitment to reducing accidents and ensuring a safer road environment.
