Punjab: Vehicle Registration Cards in 3-4 Weeks

In a recent development, the Punjab Excise Department has encountered a logistical challenge, temporarily halting the delivery of vehicle registration cards. As previously reported, the department suspended card deliveries due to the cessation of operations by the card manufacturing company.

A recent update from the Excise Department, conveyed through a tweet, explains that the delay in delivery is a consequence of the ongoing tendering process. This unforeseen obstacle has disrupted the smooth distribution of registration cards to vehicle owners, causing understandable inconvenience.

The tweet assures citizens that the tendering process is actively in progress, and the continuous supply of registration cards is anticipated to resume within the next three to four weeks. The department extends sincere apologies for any inconvenience experienced during this period.

It is worth noting that the department had previously entered a five-year contract with the 'Inbox Company,' concluding in May, for the supply of 8.5 million cards at a cost of Rs. 438 per card. The smart cards issued by the Punjab Excise Department boast over ten security features, including a monogram, a temperature-dependent color-changing pattern, and unique lamination.

Despite a brief extension of the contract, resulting in an additional 400,000 cards, it did not forestall the impending challenges. The Excise department managed to issue more than 80,000 registration cards before the temporary extension concluded.

While unexpected disruptions in public services can be frustrating, it is essential to acknowledge the ongoing efforts to promptly rectify the situation. As we await the return to normalcy, exercising patience and understanding is crucial, recognizing that these challenges are often temporary bumps on the road to efficient governance.
