Punjab's Driving License Fee Jumps 2600% Higher

In a surprising development, the Punjab government has recently enforced a significant increase in driving license fees, leaving drivers astonished and grappling with financial strain. Starting from January 17, 2023, the updated fee structure has witnessed an astronomical surge, reaching an alarming 2600% hike in some categories.

The revised fee chart discloses staggering figures, portraying a grim scenario for individuals aiming to renew or acquire licenses in the area. The previous 5-year fees, already a financial burden for many, have undergone substantial revisions.

Revised Fee Structure:
>>  Motorcyclists , who previously paid a reasonable 60 rupees for a 5-year license, are now confronted with a staggering fee of Rs. 4900 – a startling 791% increase. 
>>  Car and Jeep owners, not exempt from this financial hit, now encounter a 1100% surge, witnessing fees escalating from Rs. 550 to Rs. 11400.
>>  The Light Transport (LTE) category experiences an unparalleled 1205% increase, with fees escalating from Rs. 550 to a substantial Rs. 12400.
>>  However, the Heavy Transport (HTE) category takes the lead in this fee upheaval, experiencing an alarming 2656% surge from Rs. 950 to Rs. 12400.
>>  Even tractor and commercial tractor owners are not spared from the financial strain, as their fees witness a considerable 2100% increase, leaping from Rs. 450 to Rs. 9900.

While the government may assert that the elevated fees are essential for infrastructure development and road safety initiatives, the impact on the average citizen cannot be overlooked.
