Punjab's Driving License Fee Shoots Up - Massive 1566% Rise

The Lahore Traffic Police has issued a notification to the public, revealing a significant hike in driving license fees by the provincial government.

As per the announcement made on X, the caretaker Punjab government has decided to raise the driver's license fee by an astounding 1566%, soaring from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1000.

While citizens are granted a window until December 31 to obtain their licenses at the current rate, the revised fee structure will come into effect starting January 1, 2024, where motorists will be required to pay Rs. 1000 for obtaining a license.

The decision has triggered widespread criticism on social media platforms, with netizens expressing discontent over the substantial fee increase. Many argue that this move appears disproportionate, especially when drivers have been increasingly compliant with traffic regulations.

Concerns have been raised about the potential negative impact on responsible driving practices, suggesting that the abrupt fee hike could discourage law-abiding citizens who actively contribute to road safety.

Notably, prior to this fee adjustment, the city traffic police had already raised fines for learner's permit holders. Although cases will not be registered against learner's permit holders, they will now face a fine of Rs. 2000, adding another layer of contention among the driving community.
