Rimac Nevera Breaks Guinness Record in Reverse Drive

Rimac Nevera Breaks Guinness Record in Reverse Drive
Croatian electric hypercar manufacturer Rimac has once again made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest car traveling in reverse. The Rimac Nevera achieved an astounding speed of 275.75 km/h during the test, surpassing its own record for the fastest production electric car traveling forward.
A Remarkable Feat in Germany
The record-breaking event took place on October 7 at a facility in Germany, with representatives from Guinness World Records on hand to witness and verify the achievement. This remarkable feat demonstrated the capabilities of the Rimac Nevera in a category rarely explored.
Exceeding Previous Records
The new benchmark of 275.75 km/h is more than 110 km/h faster than the previous record set in 2001 by Darren Manning, who drove a petrol-powered Caterham Fireblade sports car at a speed of 165.08 km/h.

Goran Drndak Takes the Wheel
Behind the wheel of the Rimac Nevera during this unconventional test was 22-year-old test driver Goran Drndak. With only one gear for forward motion, the Nevera, known for holding the production-car acceleration record of 1.81 seconds for 0-100 km/h, showcased its versatility in this unexpected challenge.
Challenges Faced During the Record Attempt
Matija Renic, Chief Program Engineer for the Nevera, shared insights into the development process. He revealed that the team initially considered the possibility of the Nevera becoming the world’s fastest car in reverse as a humorous idea. However, as simulations indicated speeds over 150 mph (241 km/h), the team decided to give it a try. Renic explained that the aerodynamics, cooling, and stability were not engineered for high-speed backward travel, making the attempt an exploration into uncharted territory.
Drndak's Experience Behind the Wheel
Test driver Drndak described the experience as unconventional but not difficult to control. Facing backward and watching the scenery rush away, he felt a sensation similar to heavy braking, as the speed increased.
Rimac's Record-Breaking Year
This achievement adds to Rimac's impressive record-breaking year, during which the company set more than 20 records. Notably, Rimac surpassed Tesla in August, securing the all-time lap record for electric vehicles at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany. The Rimac Nevera's ability to break records in both forward and reverse travel underscores its exceptional performance and engineering prowess.
