Toyota Unveils Next-Generation Vellfire & Alphard Models

If you venture past the imposing grilles, you may come across a pair of minivans. Toyota has unveiled the latest versions of the Alphard and Vellfire, demonstrating their commitment to innovation. These models follow the footsteps of the luxurious Lexus LM and share the TNGA-K platform. In line with their mission of providing "mobility for all," Toyota has introduced a distinctive Welcab 'accessibility' variant in their new lineup.

The fourth-generation Alphard and Vellfire models proudly showcase Toyota's design concept known as 'Forceful x IMPACT LUXURY.' Drawing inspiration from the commanding presence of a charging bull, this design theme seamlessly incorporates dynamic elements that extend from the front to the rear of the vehicles. The result is a visually stunning appearance that captures the essence of power and strength.

Dimension

The minivans boast generous dimensions, with a length of 4995 mm (196.6 in) and a spacious wheelbase of 3000 mm (118.1 in). Both models share a width of 1850 mm (72.8 in). As for the height, it varies based on the model and trim level, ranging from 1935 mm (76.2 in) to 1945 mm (76.5 in).

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior, a closer look at the Toyota minivans reveals their striking front grilles, each possessing unique characteristics that distinguish them. The Alphard presents a segmented finish on its grille, while the Vellfire showcases a grille adorned with horizontal slats.
Furthermore, these vehicles are equipped with sleek headlamps, each displaying its distinctive LED daytime running lamp design. The Alphard impresses with two rows of segmented DRLs, whereas the Vellfire incorporates a simpler bar positioned below the main headlight.
Both the Alphard and Vellfire feature an innovative and groundbreaking element called 'Universal Steps' on their sliding doors. This remarkable addition enhances accessibility, making it easier for passengers to enter or exit the vehicle.

When the side doors open, an automatic step extends to a height of approximately 220 mm above the ground, providing passengers with effortless access as they step in or out. This intelligent design substantially reduces the initial step's height, delivering a more convenient and comfortable experience.
Furthermore, the vehicles feature elongated assist grips thoughtfully placed on the C-pillars and both sides of the ceiling. These assist grips are designed to accommodate individuals of different sizes, further enhancing the ease of entry and exit for passengers.

Interior

Within the cabin, the Alphard and Vellfire models exhibit striking similarities. Both vehicles showcase a spacious and uncluttered layout, highlighted by a large central touchscreen that stands independently. Complementing this minimalist approach, they also come equipped with a digital instrument cluster.
Toyota has focused on improving the seat design to prioritize occupant comfort. As a result, the middle row now offers an additional 5mm of space, while the third row provides an extra 10mm of room. To enhance versatility, both MPVs offer the option of individual second-row chairs with multiple adjustments. Furthermore, the Executive Lounge package includes a rising ottoman, providing an extra touch of luxury and relaxation.
In the Alphard, a notable addition is the inclusion of individual removable tablets in the central armrests of each seat. These tablets grant passengers control over various in-car functions, offering enhanced convenience and personalization options.

Both the Alphard and Vellfire provide seating for up to six individuals in a 2+2+2 configuration, featuring second-row captain's chairs. Notably, there is an additional 5 mm (0.2 in) of space between the first two rows and an extra 10 mm (0.4 in) between the second and third rows.
To further enhance the cabin experience, the Alphard and Vellfire MPVs introduce a new overhead console. This console incorporates ambient lighting and controls for the air conditioning system, power windows, and rear air conditioning vents. Additionally, both models now come equipped with an electrically operated footstep as a standard feature. These footstep mechanisms are located on both rear doors and extend outward when the doors open, facilitating easier entry and exit from the vehicle.
Furthermore, these MPVs offer unique comfort features, including individual operation of the sunshade for the moon roof. This allows the left and right rear passengers to adjust the sunshade independently. Additionally, the vehicles include pull-down sunshades on the windows, a first for MPVs, offering increased privacy and protection from sunlight.

Powertrain

The Alphard and Vellfire MPVs offer a range of powertrain options, including petrol and hybrid engines, featuring some notable advancements. In a significant first, the Vellfire is now available with a 2.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine, offered in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
Both models introduce two-wheel-drive hybrid powertrains and the E-Four all-wheel drive layout. The hybrid powertrain comprises a familiar 2.5-liter petrol engine paired with either a single or dual electric motors, with one of the motors powering the rear wheels.
In contrast, the Alphard also provides a 2.5-liter petrol engine without the hybrid powertrain option. Toyota has also confirmed plans to equip both MPVs with plug-in hybrid powertrains in the future, further enhancing their environmental friendliness and fuel efficiency.
Production of the new Alphard and Vellfire models will take place at Toyota's Inabe plant in Japan, with a targeted production volume of 8,500 units per month. Approximately 70% of the total production volume will be allocated to the Alphard, while the remaining 30% will be dedicated to the Vellfire.

Pricing

The Alphard is priced between 5,400,000 yen and 8,720,000 yen, which translates to approximately $38,000 to $61,400. Meanwhile, the Vellfire falls within the price range of 6,550,000 yen to 8,920,000 yen, or roughly $46,100 to $62,800. These prices are influenced by the different trim levels and optional features offered for each model.
