Toyota Unveils Three New EVs, Including a Pickup
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda believes that electric vehicles will never exceed a 30% market share, no matter how much technology improves. However, even if he's right, millions of buyers will still choose EVs. To capture this market, the automaker is stepping up its game. Toyota unveils new EVs to expand its portfolio, with three models already in Europe and three more expected by late 2026. This marks a shift in Toyota's strategy as it works to stay competitive in the growing EV market.
A New Pickup in the Works
At the Kenshiki forum in Brussels, Toyota introduced the C-HR+, an updated bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser, and the compact FT-Me city car. While details about upcoming Toyota EVs remain unclear, one of the new models is expected to be a Toyota electric pickup Truck. Some speculate it could be the production version of the EPU concept, first revealed in 2023. This mid-size, dual-cab truck measures 200 inches in length and features a unibody design, offering a modern take on Toyota's pickup segment.
Toyota’s Expanding Truck Lineup
Toyota has already launched the Hilux Revo BEV in some markets, but the teased Toyota electric truck seems to be a different model. Unlike the Hilux, which lacks rear doors, the upcoming truck appears to have a dual-cab design. Some believe it could be a Tacoma-inspired EV, but since this new model is planned for Europe, it might differ from the US-focused electric Tacoma. With Toyota diversifying its lineup, this truck could play a crucial role in its Toyota EV lineup.
New SUVs on the Horizon
Toyota also showcased two new SUVs at the event, one of which might be the Land Cruiser Se. First introduced as a concept in 2023, the model seems closer to production. Toyota brought the prototype to Belgium, signaling strong interest in launching it soon. The second SUV remains a mystery, but it is confirmed to be a Toyota, not a Lexus. Given Toyota’s global ambitions, a three-row SUV made in Kentucky could be part of its new Toyota electric vehicles plan.
Toyota’s EV Branding Shift
Interestingly, Toyota is moving away from its "Beyond Zero" (bZ) branding for these new models. Like the Urban Cruiser and C-HR+, the upcoming EVs won’t carry the bZ badge. As part of its commitment to electrification, the company is refining its marketing approach to make its EVs more recognizable. With a mix of SUVs, a Toyota pickup EV, and city-friendly models, Toyota is working to strengthen its position in the EV market. As Toyota electric models 2025 approach, the brand is making bold moves to stay competitive.
