Absolutely. If the drain plug is not properly tightened after a fluid change o r if the washer is worn out, it can cause a slow leak that worsens over time.

Signs:

Slow drip of reddish fluid from under the transmission pan

Oil trails under the car after parking

Fluid level ping gradually

Solution:

Inspect the drain plug and its washer also called a crush washer.

Replace the washer if its worn o r missing.

Re-torque the drain bolt to the manufacturer’s recommended specs—don’t overtighten.

If the threads are stripped, consider using a thread repair kit o r replacing the pan.
