Is My Suzuki Khyber’s Steering Rack Damaged? How Can I Tell?

: I’ve been noticing a clunking sound when I turn the steering wheel, and the steering sometimes feels loose o r unresponsive. Could this be a problem with the steering rack? How can I diagnose if the steering rack needs replacement?

A damaged steering rack can cause your car to feel loose, imprecise, o r make clunking sounds when turning. In older cars like the Khyber, the rack can wear out due to age, rust, o r poor roads.

Signs of a Failing Steering Rack:

Loose o r vague steering

Clunking o r knocking noises

Fluid leaks near the rack if power steering is installed

Uneven tire wear from poor alignment

Fix:

Get the rack inspected by a suspension specialist

Replace the rack o r bushings if necessary

Replacing the steering rack can cost PKR 4,000–7,000 depending on condition and labor
