Can Using Low-Quality Engine Oil Increase Consumption in My Suzuki Khyber?

Some owners report higher oil usage when switching to cheaper o r thinner oil brands. Does oil quality o r viscosity have an impact on consumption, especially in high-mileage Khyber engines?

Yes, low-quality o r incorrect viscosity oil can increase consumption. Thin o r poorly refined oils break down faster, especially in hot climates like Pakistan’s, and may leak past worn engine seals.

What to Avoid:

Very thin oils like 5W-30 in older engines

Cheap o r unbranded oils lacking proper certification e.g., API SL o r SM

Recommended Oil for Older Khybers:

20W-50 o r 15W-40, preferably from known brands like ZIC, Caltex, o r Shell

Use high-mileage variants that help seal gaps and reduce burning
