Could Worn Piston Rings Be the Reason for High Oil Consumption in My Khyber?

Older Suzuki Khybers often start burning oil. Is it likely due to worn piston rings, and how can I confirm if this is causing the engine to burn oil instead of leaking it?

Yes, worn piston rings are a major cause of oil burning. The rings are supposed to seal the combustion chamber and prevent oil from entering. In older Khyber engines, these rings wear out, causing oil to burn along with fuel.

Symptoms of Worn Rings:

Blue smoke from the exhaust especially during acceleration

Decreased engine compression

Poor fuel economy

Frequent need to top up oil

How to Confirm:

Perform a compression test

Look for blue smoke while driving

Remove spark plugs and inspect for oil fouling

Fix:

Overhaul the engine piston rings, valve seals, gaskets

Use high-mileage engine oil to slow wear temporarily
