A clogged catalytic converter can lead to several performance issues. Since the Khyber is an older model, this issue might be more common if maintenance hasn’t been kept up. Here are some ways to identify if the catalytic converter is clogged:

Signs of a Clogged Catalytic Converter:

Poor acceleration o r engine performance

Engine stalls o r struggles to maintain idle speed

Strange noises such as rattling, particularly from the exhaust area

Decreased fuel efficiency

Check Engine Light CEL may appear due to sensor o r exhaust flow issues

Sulfur smell from exhaust indicating incomplete combustion

Solution:

If you notice these signs, get the exhaust flow tested o r use a scanner tool to check for diagnostic trouble codes DTC related to the catalytic converter.

In many cases, cleaning o r replacing the catalytic converter will restore engine performance.

Cleaning costs: PKR 1,000–3,000, Replacement: PKR 5,000–12,000.
