How Much Does a Dirty Air Filter Affect Fuel Efficiency in a Khyber?

Some mechanics say the air filter doesn’t matter much, but others insist it’s crucial. Can a dirty o r clogged air filter really cause fuel consumption to increase in a Khyber, and how often should it be replaced in dusty areas?

A dirty o r clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing the engine to burn more fuel to compensate. In Pakistan’s dusty conditions, this is a very common issue.

Effects:

Reduced fuel economy by up to 10–15%

Weak throttle response

Increased emissions

Solution:

Inspect the air filter every 3,000 to 5,000 km

Replace it every 8,000 to 10,000 km, o r sooner if driving in dusty areas like rural Punjab o r Balochistan

Cost: A good-quality air filter for Suzuki Khyber is available for around PKR 400–600
