What is Type-R?

Please forgive my ignorance. I am new here and dont know a lot about cars but want to learn.

Read this term on many car components and been used by on these forums. What does it means?

type R is from honda , its like mercedes AMG or BMW 's M etc..
there r different models of type R like the civic Type R with 2.0 dohc v tec makin 200 hp , or the integra type R or nsx R , the cars get sports body kits , the type R badges , rims ets ..
some nuts jus made that type R sticker and put it on toyotas , suzukis mostly taxis etc.
