Why Is My Suzuki Khyber’s Check Engine Light On? Could It Be a Catalytic Converter Problem?

The check engine light on my Khyber is on, and I’ve heard that it might be related to the catalytic converter. How do I know if the converter is the problem, and should I be concerned?

Yes, a Check Engine Light CEL is often triggered by issues with the catalytic converter. When the converter fails o r is not working efficiently, it can cause the engine control unit ECU to detect abnormal exhaust flow o r issues with exhaust emissions, triggering the light.

Common Reasons for CEL Related to the Catalytic Converter:

Excessive backpressure caused by a clogged converter

Oxygen sensor failure due to a faulty catalytic converter

Performance issues like poor fuel economy o r engine misfire

The engine control module ECM detects abnormal exhaust gas composition

What You Can Do:

Use a OBD2 scanner to check the error code often P0420 for catalytic converter efficiency

If the code indicates catalytic converter issues, it’s recommended to either clean o r replace it.

Regular maintenance, like checking your oxygen sensors, can also prevent this issue.
