The federal administration has declared a substantial surge in driving permit charges, impacting motorbike and automobile holders countrywide. The most recent announcement signifies a 25% escalation in permit costs for both motorbike and automobile classes.

The latest guidelines entail an extra charge of Rs 2,000 for applicants opting for urgent license issuance. Additionally, mandatory driving test fees are set at Rs 300 for small vehicle license seekers and Rs 500 for those applying for large vehicle licenses. Moreover, individuals needing a No objection Certificate for license approval will now face a fixed fee of Rupees One Thousand.

In an effort to enrich availability and streamline the licensing progression, Punjab recently enacted alterations to its motor vehicle statutes. The Punjab Traffic Police, in partnership with the provincial administration, revamped its approach to permit failed driving test candidates to reattempt their assessment following a truncated waiting period of two weeks, down from the prior 6 weeks. This consequential resolution ensues extensive discussions within the Punjab Cabinet, culminating in the ratification of amendments to the longstanding Punjab Motor Vehicle Rules of 1969.

An authorized spokesperson underscored that aspiring motorists are granted a learning license valid for six months, affording abundant preparation time for the driving examination. With the recent deployment of an online licensing mechanism, roughly 360,000 aspirants are now eligible to undergo the driving appraisal every six months, appreciably ameliorating accessibility and operational effectiveness.
