China's New Electric Buses Arrive in Islamabad

Today marks the anticipated arrival of electric buses imported from China, a significant development set to enhance Islamabad's transportation system. These buses are slated to serve two feeder routes of the Metro Bus Service, marking a progressive step in the city's sustainable transit initiatives.

Arrival of First Batch
Chaired by the Chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA), a meeting affirmed that the initial batch of 30 electric buses will commence their journey into the federal capital. These buses, representing the vanguard of a larger fleet, will begin operations today, addressing vital feeder routes.

Feeder Routes Expansion
Feeder Route 7 will connect the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to the Metro Bus stop at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), while Feeder Route 4 will extend from PIMS to Bari Imam/Quaid-e-Azam University. Operating hours will span from 6 am to 10 pm, catering to diverse commuter needs.

Inclusive Fare Structure
In a nod to inclusivity, special fares will be extended to students and disabled individuals, fostering accessibility across socioeconomic strata. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the arrival of additional buses, with 30 already stationed in Karachi and a second batch of 70 anticipated in the near future.

Infrastructure Development
Complementing the electric fleet, infrastructure enhancements are underway, including a charging station capable of servicing 12 buses simultaneously at the Jinnah Convention Centre. Additionally, a dedicated bus depot in Sector H-9 is nearing completion, ensuring efficient parking and maintenance facilities.

Affordable Mobility
Setting a benchmark for affordability, the fare for this eco-friendly mode of transportation has been fixed at Rs. 50 per person, aligning with the government's commitment to accessible public transit options.
