Electric Buses on 13 Routes in Islamabad Soon

Islamabad is set to introduce a cutting-edge bus service, with 30 electric buses from China scheduled to arrive next month. This announcement came during a meeting led by Chairman Anwarul Haq, where CDA officials shared plans to import a total of 160 electric buses from China.

The initial phase will see 30 buses arriving in Pakistan in January, followed by the remaining buses in February and March. Chairman CDA emphasized the importance of a prompt delivery and directed officials to ensure there are no delays.

Once the first fleet arrives, the official launch of the bus service is anticipated. These electric buses will operate on 13 routes throughout the federal capital.

In tandem with this initiative, CDA is initiating the construction of the main bus depot at Zero Point along Srinagar Highway, towards the H-8 side, within the next few days. The construction is expected to be completed in six months. Additionally, plans for three more bus depots are in the pipeline.

Earlier decisions in October dictated that the construction would adhere to 42(f) of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, allowing only government-run construction firms to participate in the bidding process for expedited completion.

The responsibility of operating the buses on the 13 routes has been entrusted to the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). The NRTC will receive compensation ranging from Rs. 306 to Rs. 331 per kilometer from CDA.

The routes for the electric bus service are as follows:

Police Foundation/Orange Line Station to Red Line Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station in I-8
Allama Iqbal Station to Red Line Potohar Station
Pims to Secretariat
D-12 to G-10
F-11 to Red Line F-8 Station
G-11 to Pims
Aabpara to Tramri Chowk
Nilor to Khanna Pul
Pirwadhai Chowk to Faizabad
B-17 to 26 Number Chungi
I-16 to 26 Number

It's worth noting that the directive to initiate the bus service came from former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his tenure, where he inaugurated Orange Line, Green Line, and Blue Line metro bus services.
