Facelift Alert: Upgraded GR Yaris Breaks Cover
Toyota has recently enhanced the performance of its GR Yaris model, elevating its power capabilities. The 1.6L three-cylinder engine, previously generating 260hp and 360 Nm, has now been upgraded to a staggering 300hp and 400Nm of torque. This powerhouse is coupled with an 8-speed Gazoo Racing transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

However, in Japan, there's a distinct variant known as the GR Yaris RS, offering a completely different experience. Despite its external resemblance to the full-powered model, the GR Yaris RS is equipped with a modest 1.5L engine, producing 118 hp and 145 Nm of torque. Paired with a CVT gearbox, this variant powers only the front wheels.
The GR Yaris RS comes at a significantly lower price point compared to its more powerful counterpart, priced at 2,650,000 yen, approximately $18,000. In contrast, the standard GR Yaris, in its pre-facelift form, reaches up to 4,560,000 yen, almost $31,000. The pricing for the recently unveiled facelift is yet to be disclosed.

While the GR Yaris RS may deceive the casual observer with its visual similarity to the high-performance Yaris hot hatch, subtle distinctions reveal its true nature. Notably, the speedometer on the performance hatch reaches 280 km/h, whereas the GR Yaris RS is limited to 180 km/h.
