Sindh Government Launches Home-Based Vehicle Registration

Following Punjab's lead, the Sindh government has taken significant steps to digitize its services, aiming to enhance convenience for its citizens. In a recent development, the provincial government unveiled a new vehicle registration service, allowing residents to register their vehicles without leaving their homes. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize public services across the province.

Announcement by Transport and Excise Minister
Transport and Excise Minister Sharjeel Memon announced this service during a press conference. He highlighted that the decision was made after a key meeting of the Excise Department. The home-based registration service is expected to streamline the process, making it more accessible and less time-consuming for vehicle owners.

Details of the New Service
The new service will be available for a government fee of ten thousand rupees. Biometric data collection and verification will be conducted at the individual's residence, ensuring a secure and efficient process. This service is designed to save vehicle owners the hassle of visiting government offices, thus making the registration process smoother and more convenient.

Elimination of 60-Day Registration Limit
In addition to the home-based registration, the Sindh government has abolished the 60-day limit for vehicle registration. Now, only registered vehicles can be purchased, and if an unregistered vehicle is bought, it must be registered before being used on the road. This change aims to simplify the process and ensure compliance with regulations.

Success in Generating Revenue
The Sindh government has also been successful in generating revenue through premium number plates. In June, the Excise Department raised a remarkable 6.7 billion rupees in just four hours during an auction. The auction featured three categories of plates, with the platinum category starting at Rs. 2 million. These initiatives reflect the government's commitment to modernizing its services and boosting its revenue streams.
