Suzuki Swift Takes the Lead: Beats Alto in May Sales

The Suzuki Alto is renowned as the most economical hatchback for local road travel. Its low price, impressive fuel efficiency, and compact size make it perfect for navigating tight spaces and commuting in densely populated areas. These features have cemented the Alto as the top choice for the middle class and Suzuki’s best-selling vehicle.

Swift Overtakes Alto

Despite the Alto's usual dominance in sales, May saw an unexpected shift. According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the Suzuki Swift outperformed the Alto in sales. This surprising development marks a significant change in the market dynamics.

Surge in Swift Sales

The PAMA report highlighted a remarkable 118% increase in Suzuki Swift sales, with 714 units sold in May compared to 328 in April 2024. Pak Suzuki's overall sales reached 6,010 vehicles in May, slightly up from 6,000 in April. This included 4,062 Alto units, 229 Suzuki Cultus, 253 Suzuki Wagon R, 714 Suzuki Swift, 447 Suzuki Bolan, and 305 Suzuki Ravi.

May Car Sales Overview

Overall, car sales in May 2024 saw a 4% month-on-month (MoM) increase, with 10,949 vehicles sold compared to 10,515 in April. Year-on-year (YoY), there was a staggering 100% increase, thanks to the stable Pakistani Rupee against the US dollar. This allowed manufacturers to sell significantly more cars compared to the same period last year.
