Suzuki's Recovery: Bike Sales Slump Continues

In July 2023, the downward trend in bike sales continues in Pakistan, largely attributed to the country's economic challenges. According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (PAMA), bike sales for the month reached 73,588 units, reflecting an 11% drop compared to the previous month. Atlas Honda saw a 17% decline in sales, with a total of 62,012 bikes sold during the same period.

Pak Suzuki, however, experienced a significant turnaround, selling 957 motorcycles in July—a remarkable 164% increase compared to June 2023. Conversely, Yamaha faced a setback, with a 28% drop in sales, selling 675 motorcycles in July compared to the prior month. Sales of Chinese motorcycles plummeted by up to 80% compared to June.

Although PAMA didn't explicitly state reasons for the sales decline, research firms suggest that import restrictions and production interruptions may be contributing to the challenges faced by bike manufacturers.

It's important to note that the motorcycle industry is not the only one experiencing setbacks; the car sector is in a similar state. According to the PAMA report, car sales also decreased by 16% month-on-month last month.

Car Sales Follow Suit

A surprising revelation from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report lays bare the harsh reality of the automotive industry as car sales dropped by a significant 16% month-on-month. The report states that automakers sold 5,092 vehicles last month, compared to 6,034 units in June 2023.

Simultaneously, the industry recorded a 57% year-on-year decrease in car sales, with 11,925 units sold in July 2022 compared to 5,092 vehicles in the corresponding period of this year.
